【Croatia】Dubrovnik The great ancient city and the prototype for King’s Landing in Game of Thrones
Dubrovnik is a popular vacation destination known as the “Pearl of the Adriatic”. It was once a city-state that could rival Venice in the Adriatic Sea. Its former name was Ragusa, which was used until 1814 when it was eliminated by Austria. After that, the city has been known as Dubrovnik. Dubrovnik is an important filming location for the TV series Game of Thrones, serving as the setting for King’s Landing and many other southern scenes. It was also used as a filming location for Star Wars Episode VIII.

Transportation
The city has public buses, and the whole city is not really very big, but the roads are very narrow, so it is strongly not recommended to drive.
Transportation to and from airport
The city center has a bus terminal that provides shuttle buses to the airport. As tickets cannot be purchased on the bus, it is necessary to buy them in advance.
Address: Obala Ivana Pavla II 44 A, 20000, Dubrovnik, Croatia
Sightseeing points
Franjevački samostan i crkva
There is an ancient pharmacy hidden inside this monastery, selling some cute little ointments. It’s worth a visit if you’re interested.
Main street in oldtown Stradun
The main street was the filming location for the city chase scene in Star Wars Episode VIII, with the water troughs on the ground and the circular arch on the right matching the scene.
Stairs in fornt of Crkva sv. Ignacija
Address: Ul. Josipa Jurja Strossmayera 2, 20000, Dubrovnik, Croatia
It is the same place where Cersei Lannister walked naked through the streets in the Season 5 finale of Game of Thrones. Many fans of the show take photos here.
Other region in old town(Game of Thrones scenes)
The entire old town is the prototype for King’s Landing, but I didn’t find a suitable angle to take a photo from.
The small bay below is the harbor of King’s Landing that is often seen in the series.
Bonus spot
Dubrovnik is about a 3-hour drive from Split, and along the way, you will pass through an oyster-producing area called Ston. If you want to try some fresh oysters, it’s a great place worth to stop by.
